BIG NEWS FROM THE JURKOWSKI’S
So Bryan and I have officially stepped into the deep end of the pool for next year. We are – voluntarily – taking on the position of dorm parents to both a girls AND A BOYS DORM. As the end of the school year began drawing ever closer, there were absolutely no new dorm parents to be found for Maugenhard, the boys dorm above us in the building. It seems it is hard to find people crazy enough to care for and do life with lots of teenagers. Bryan began coming up with a “Plan B,” not seriously thinking that it would happen. Well, on Tuesday afternoon, his Plan B was approved as the best option, and we told the kids and parents of both dorms on Wednesday evening.
They (our supervisors) asked us to move upstairs to the boys dorm. The boys need a significant parental presence.. We are able to do this because of our building. The bottom two floors are girls, the top two floors are boys. There is a special fire door between the two dorms that is locked that opens when their is a fire alarm. We will now have it open to be one big dorm with four floors and forty students. We’ll have our evening meals all together, with staff that will be almost 50. Our breakfasts separate, other things will be balanced between doing life together and just girl time and guy time. We’ll still of course have room hallways that are inaccessible to the other sex. Lots of other details still need to be decided, so it’s a work in progress, but it’s going to work!
WHY DO THIS? While it seems crazy to think about caring for now 40 teenagers, we are happy to be able to help out their families in this way. Those 20 boys would probably not be back at BFA if we were not willing to do this. And if they were not here, their families would probably not stay in the countries they are serving. That means keeping 20 more missionary families on the field at the prime of their ministries. That’s why we’re here. That’s why we did not feel peace about leaving. It’s comforting to know that God had this in mind. And if He had this in mind, He will give us the strength, tenacity, wisdom, rest, and humor that we need to complete it.
PLEASE PRAY FOR US
- #1 – Student Unity. Our girls and now our boys to be accepting of this and for them to become UNIFIED next year. Right now they are both very apprehensive. Please pray for this – it’s so important. If the students buy into this it can be a great year of fun but if they don’t it could be such a hard year. We need unity so much.
- #2 Staff unity. We have six RA’s we will do this with. Which is two people less than past years. We all have experience but we need to be unified.
- # 3 Energy and Wisdom. – We will need both so much.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS. – Bryan and Jennifer
